Request for Release of Hourly Arrivals and Departures Data

I am writing to respectfully request that the Immigration Department (IMMD) make available hourly data on arrivals and departures at Hong Kong’s border control points. The release of such data would provide critical insights into population movements, enabling better understanding of travel patterns and trends.

Access to real-time and historical hourly immigration data is essential for facilitating informed decision-making and effective planning for infrastructure and public services. Furthermore, this data would empower developers to create innovative applications that enhance inter-city connectivity and promote local tourism, ultimately contributing to a better quality of life for residents and visitors. By making this data publicly available, the IMMD would support stakeholders in various sectors, including transportation, tourism, and urban planning, to optimize resources and enhance service delivery.

I kindly urge the Immigration Department to consider releasing this data in a structured and accessible format, ensuring it is anonymized to protect individual privacy. Should further discussion or clarification be needed, I would be happy to engage with your team to explore how this initiative can be effectively implemented.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your positive response.

Yours sincerely,
Sammy Fung
